MILKWEED written and performed by Misty De Berry

Co-produced with the UW-Milwaukee LGBT Resource Center

MARKETING MATERIAL:

Fusing poetry and theatre, the play takes an intimate look at three African-American female survivors of gender-based violence.  With Milkweed, DeBerry aims “to question and re-imagine issues of trauma and healing, intimacy and love, along with identity and behavior through performance, text and the body” and “to document the journeys black women make from trauma to recovery and the words used to construct the self along the way.”  Taking inspiration from the life-cycle of the Monarch Butterfly, which consumes large quantities of poison from the milkweed plant to survive, this play ultimately speaks to journeys we take and our inherent will to survive.
